Custom Commission - The Jess

The Jess is Alter Ego’s take on a vintage, worn, lived in style. Gently taco brim, and a presence that reads as both deeply traditional and entirely now. It is the most asked about style the Jess wears as her own personal hat.

Shaped entirely from premium American beaver fur felt, The Jess is available in three expressions:

Traditional dyed felt — $950

The full range of Alter Ego’s signature colors, rich and consistent.

Silver belly fur felt — $1,050

A particular shade of pale warm grey that belongs to no other hat quite like this one.

Hand-dyed botanical colors — $1,150

Dyed using natural plant materials. Every hat emerges slightly differently. No two are the same.

The process

Proportions, crown height, brim width, and color are all customized through conversation with Jess. Hat bands are designed as part of the process — chosen together, finished by hand.

At checkout, enter your head measurements and preferred direction. Jess will be in touch within a few days to begin.

Please allow up to six weeks for production and delivery. A limited number of commissions are accepted each season.
